Babies

Ages Newborn-2

Their is no such thing as spoiling your baby

While our focus this month is on Alzheimer's and Dementia here’s some fun fact’s about how you and your babies can help while doing some fun activities. Studies have shown that babies can help with these conditions by improving their quality of life just by interacting with babies. People with memory conditions will take to babies with a nurturing and helping disposition. They will want to hold the babies, smell them, play with them and even sing to them. All of these things will help people with Dementia and Alzheimer’s with their mussel mass, boast their endorphins, work on their motor skills and even help with vocal cords which are all things they tend to struggle with these conditions. So if your looking for something to do to get you out of the house call up your local memory clinic to see if you can bring your child in to volunteer today.

Cuddling

I’ve always heard “Don’t carry the baby to much, you’ll spoil them”. I carried my children all the time and nope not spoiled. I have friend’s that have carried their babies more than I have and still nope not spoiled. Babies are meant to be loved by you so do it.

Sensory Toy’s

I always wondered why my friends kids were always so lets just say disheveled. Then I became a mom and found out why.

Babies- By the time your child is the recommended age of trying new foods at 6 months I say let them play with it. You can’t get a better sensory toy than a mashed up bananas, or sweet potato. Having different texters between their little cute fingers and yeah sometimes toes and hair is not only picture worthy but fun and exciting for me. Besides isn’t that why Miguel invented Mop?

14 months-2 years- Don’t make anything out of something your child can’t eat. At this age and I’m sure at older ages they love to put things in their mouth. I gave my kids a spoon, a pan from the cabinet and let them make amazing loud music. My kids also broke a lot of wooden spoons so I would caution against those.

I would also make them plastic eggs with small spaghetti noodles broken up inside of them. I would take the plastic eggs together and check regularly to make sure they didn’t come apart. Then I would have a instant raddle. Less noisy.

Hands-on activities

As we move forward with this site we will be adding more to hands on activates. For now I’ll let you in on two of my favorite I used to do with my kids.

Babies- Different Noises with their mouths. I would always make different noises with them. The loud clicking of the tongue, the OOOO sounds, and the lalala sounds were my favorite. it would help build tongue mussels and start preparing them for using words.

14months-2 years- Sensory activities and music was key in my house. My neighbors would always tell me how the loud singing and laughing radiating out of my house would remind them of when their kids were young.

Reading

Reading to your child from the start will give your child not only the love of reading but a introduction to language. It also allows you to have 20 more minutes of bonding time. That is a memory that is life lasting.

Cuddling and playing with your child creates a bond like no other.
